  1. English Language
English is a compulsory subject for all courses in JAMB. Whether you’re applying for Agronomy or any other program, this subject is essential.
  2. Chemistry
Chemistry is key to understanding soil science and the various chemicals involved in plant growth. It’s a must-have for anyone aspiring to study Agronomy.
  3. Biology or Agricultural Science
Biology or Agricultural Science is another crucial subject because it gives you a solid foundation in plant biology, crop systems, and soil management. Either one of these will work, but Biology is often the most commonly chosen.
  4. Physics or Mathematics
While you might not always associate Physics with Agronomy, it’s necessary to understand the physical properties of the soil and environment. Alternatively, Mathematics can help in calculating things like crop yield and irrigation rates.

O’Level Requirements for Agronomy

Apart from the JAMB subjects, universities will also expect you to meet certain O’Level (WAEC, NECO, or its equivalent) requirements. Generally, you need to have at least 5 credit passes in the following subjects:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology or Agricultural Science
  • Physics or Geography

These subjects are important because they lay the foundation for the advanced study of Agronomy. Be sure to check the specific O’Level requirements of the university you’re applying to, as they might vary slightly.
